Preparing a CV for Bdjobs applications

Last updated: 15 September 2026

Applying through a job portal splits your application in two: the structured profile you fill in on the site, and the CV file you attach. They are read differently, and the most common failure is letting them drift apart.

The profile and the attachment do different jobs

The structured profile is what the portal's own search runs against. When a recruiter filters for candidates with a particular degree, years of experience, or expected salary band, they are filtering your profile fields — not the text inside your attached PDF.

The attached CV is what a human opens once you have passed that filter. It carries the detail, the formatting, and the impression.

Two practical consequences:

Keep them consistent

Recruiters do notice when the profile says one thing and the CV says another. The fields that most often disagree:

FieldWhat goes wrong
Job titlesThe profile has the formal title from your appointment letter; the CV has the one you actually used. Pick one.
Employment datesMonths omitted in one place and included in the other, producing apparent gaps.
Expected salaryStated in the profile, contradicted or left blank in the CV.
ResultsCGPA given on one scale in the profile and another in the CV.
Contact detailsAn old phone number left in an attachment you have been reusing for two years.

Before attaching anything, read your profile and your CV side by side once. It takes two minutes and catches almost all of these.

What to attach

Send a PDF. It renders the same on the recruiter's machine as it did on yours. A Word document may reflow, lose a photograph's position, or substitute fonts.

Name the file with your own name. A recruiter downloading forty attachments into one folder should be able to find yours. CV_YourName.pdf works; cv.pdf does not.

Keep the layout simple. Heavy multi-column designs and graphics can confuse automated parsing, and they rarely help with local employers, who tend to value clarity over design.

Tailor the objective per application. If you apply to thirty postings with one file, the career objective is the line that gives it away. Changing it to name the role and the organisation takes thirty seconds and is the single highest-value edit you can make.

What recruiters read first

Assume the first pass takes well under a minute. In that time the reader is looking for: the role you are applying for, your most recent position, your highest qualification, and whether your salary expectation is in range. Everything else is second-pass detail.

That argues for putting your strongest material in the top third of the first page. For an experienced candidate that is recent employment; for a fresh graduate it is education, and then training or project work.

Fresh graduates

With no employment history, the sections that do the work are academic qualifications, training and certifications, and projects. Fill all three properly rather than stretching a thin experience section. Internships belong under employment history with the dates clearly marked as internships — presenting them as full roles is the kind of thing that unravels in an interview.

Build one

CVora includes a Bangladeshi CV format with the local section order, photograph, declaration and signature, and education fields that record board, group, result and passing year separately — the same details the portal profile asks for, which makes keeping the two consistent easier.
